Sasha’s First Day of SERIOUS Ballet

Today Sasha started her brand new ballet classes at a “serious” studio. There’re 7 other tiny ballerinas in her class. We had no idea that a uniform was required, hence, Sasha was the only one in a classical black/ pink attire while the rest of the chicks were fancying baby blue outfits. It was awesome to watch. Her teacher was pretty good about keeping the girls focused and working. Lots of work at the bar for an hour; I was pretty happy with our choice of studios. On the way home we have missed our exit in the rush hour traffic. Man, we had a good laugh for at least half hour trying to get back onto freeway. I told Sasha that most ballerinas are pretty healthy eaters and will most likely opt for fruits and veggies over pasta and candy. Sasha asked if Ballerinas eat candy and I told her “no; you have to pick: dance or candy.” She was in deep thought for a little while, then the decision followed: “I choose dance”. I was so close to laughing! Later this evening she came up to me and asked for some ice cream. I have totally forgotten about our earlier conversation by then. After suggesting that it was, probably, a little too late to indulge in ice cream on a school night, I’ve sent her to get ready for bed. She looked at me with her big sad eyes and said “I just wanted to have ice cream… one last time… so I can remember what it was like”.
Adrian came home waaay late from the daycare. Daddy had to go get him. As it turned out, our daddy was just a few cars ahead of us on the freeway (after Sasha and I finally found it). Adrian ran inside with big hugs and kisses ready. He is really trying to talk and nothing happens. With his voice he can repeat intonations but no words yet. We are worried sick about him. One more week before the MRI. We are looking forward to and dreading the 12th at the same time.

Ok, so one of my resolutions, and there are many, is to somehow regularly update this blog. What a better day to start than 01/01/2010!
We’ve had a pretty darn awesome New Year’s celebration. Sasha let the good’ole 2009 go out with a BANG when she stayed up till 1:30am last night. The child is nuts! Ben and I had the hardest time staying awake but Sasha effortlessly went through a weird Russian New Year’s show featuring numerous drag queens, a semi-weird AFV show with an abundance of nincompoop episodes. Also, we’ve watched something else that none of us seems to remember. Last night was a little more like a twilight zone and a little less like something I’d remember. For the first year ever we have decided not to have a traditional Russian feast. Instead, we opted for a chicken alfredo pizza from Pier 49 as well as a less gourmet selection of pepperoni and bacon pizzas from Dominos. A Spumante was on site for one of the adults and it made one of the adults super happy. Ben and Sasha baked none-other but a birthday cake for me at midnight. After a busy day of cleaning on the New Year’s Eve we were sufficiently pooped (all but Sasha). Adrian decided to be a mutant child as well; he stayed up till 11:30pm without any major meltdowns.
Sasha and Adrian found some gifts from Ded Moroz (Father Frost) under our 9 ft. tall newly purchased fake christmas tree. Ded Moroz wasn’t as kind to the adults this year, but at least he didn’t freeze us to death; so that’s a good thing.
We spent the morning of 01/01/2010 by taking pictures of each other jumping off various pieces of furniture (photos to follow). Yeah. Also, I had an awesome opportunity to blow out the candles on the “33″ chocolate cake! This year seems to be promising!
Oh, oh, oh!!! AND I did 30 mins on the elliptical AND Ben is working on his portfolio site AND we went to the Buy Low market and got 30 lbs. of chicken for 39 c/lb. AND Sasha read a Cinderella book ALL on her own AND we got our family budget book ready for 2010 and Ben officially titled it “Byrd Family Budget: the Financial Odyssey” AND we got our official calendars from the mall, so, 2010, watch out!!!
p.s. 11 days till Adrian’s MRI. XXX (fingers crossed)

Cream Puffs with Grandma!

Today we made a lot, A LOT of cream puffs with grandma! We are not quite sure where to put all of these heavenly treats, we even froze some of them. Considering we have daddy Ben, cream puffs should be gone within a week. Grandma has been trying to show us how to make the cream puffs and, in return, unfortunately, all we did was eat them and come up with fun and, for the most part, creative ways of filling them up with cream. Once grandma is gone home to Minsk next week, none of us will have a slightest clue about how to make the cream puffs. We have decided that our already out-of-shape bodies will be in serious jeopardy if we knew the secret recipe for the cream puffs. This way, not only we were able to be lazy and not learn, we were also able to save our shapeless bodies. Yeeeeh-ha!!
